Colors

Remember when you were little and would color in those kid's coloring books. You would just put color anywhere. You probably colored that dog green and yellow or maybe you colored of the Disney princesses dresses the wrong color. Listen. That's okay. You are trying to figure out what colors are best and that is part of being creative. Let's learn about color theory and how colors work together.

COLOR THEORY

Color is an important part of art. Color gives us an influencing feeling of emotions, conveys meaning, and enhances the aesthetic of the artwork. Let's say you are drawing something to convey a happy emotion, what colors do you think will be best to use? Well, let's learn about color theory. Color theory helps artist, designers, and marketers understand how colors work to create appealing artwork and help convey a specific message.

Looking at a color wheel will help you visually but knowing what the colors are and the terminology behind them will further your knowledge and help you to pick the right colors.
  • PRIMARY: Red, blue, and yellow. These colors cannot be created by mixing other colors together.
  • SECONDARY: Purple, green, and orange. These colors are created by mixing the neighboring primary colors together.
  • TERTIARY: Blue green, Orange red, and Yellow green. These colors are created by mixing primary color and a secondary color adjacent to it on the color wheel.
Now, about that question earlier, let's talk about warm colors and cool colors. Warm colors are red, orange, and yellow. Warm colors give off happy and angry emotions. As for the color red, it can be soft leaves falling in the fall breeze or blood splattered across a battlefield. As for cool colors, blue, purple, and green, can give off sad and calming emotions. As an example, blue can be the calm waves gently splashing against the sand or a tear drop falling from a person's eye.

COLOR HARMONY

There's a lot more depth to colors then just color theory. You can use more than one color or opposite colors on the color wheel to make your artwork even more emotional. Let's talk about color harmony. Color harmony helps to aesthetically arrange the colors on a color wheel to make your artwork even more appealing.
  • COMPLIMENTARY: Colors directly across from each other on the color wheel and create the highest contrast.
  • ANALOGOUS: Colors next to each other on the color wheel and create a comfortable design.
  • TRIAD: Three colors evenly spaced around the color wheel offering a vibrant and balanced artwork.
  • MONOCHOMATIC: One color that uses black or white to create a visual effect.
These color schemes will further help you to pick the right colors in your artwork. Make your art more vibrant and give it more emotion.

CONCLUSION

I hope this helped you a bit with color. I hope you use some of my color tips for your art studies! Thank you again for reading and I hope you have a better understanding of color as a whole.

First Steps in Drawing

Are you struggling to draw something simple like a flower or even just a basic shape? Well, you are in the right place! Let's learn about some helpful tips that I think that would help anyone improve their drawing skills.

LINES

Lines are the perfect start to learning how to draw. Lines will teach you how to perfectly shape things and gives you a perspective of what you're drawing. Lines are for structure and movement. Theres all sorts of lines for you to use while drawing. Some examples are Straight lines, Diagonal lines, Horizontal lines, and Vertical lines. To me, these lines are used the most when drawing. They most help with your form, shape, and texture. Here are some more lines used while drawing. Hopefully these examples and my examples help you understand why lines are so important in your first steps in learning how to draw.

SHAPES

The next step after lines is trying to draw shapes, as shapes help build ideas or objects into a drawing. For example, there are two types of shapes that you need to know, Geometric shapes and Organic shapes. Geometric shapes like you see in the left image are characterized by their clean lines, symmetry, and uniformity. They help with a sense of precision, stability, and order in a drawing. Geometric shapes are mostly used in abstract pieces, architecture, and design. So, if you are going for a more professional and perfectionist route then these shapes would help you achieve this. Organic shapes like the image on the right help with a more irregular and fluid shape, giving it more of a naturalistic look. These shapes can be in the form of leaves, animals, or humans. Therefore, if you are trying to draw something with movement or fluidity, then these shapes would be perfect because they lack any type of rigid structure like geometric shapes and are more unpredictable. Knowing how shapes work in drawing can definitely improve your artistic abilities for sure giving it more movement and emotion.

3D SHAPES AND GEOMETRIC FIGURES

Now that you know all about the basics of shapes, and the two different types, let's further develop these shapes into 3D objects as you see in the left image. 3D shapes produce a three-dimensional effect, introducing depth and volume to what you are creating. This will give your art a different perspective to better understand what's going on in the image. As you get a grip of using 3D shapes in your art you can start to find simplified ways to draw objects and figures. As simplified anatomy by using 3D shapes and organic shapes. Putting these together and creating an anatomic human hand or positioning a human torso. There are a lot of ways to move and play around with these shapes to help you understand how things can be structured.

CONCLUSION

Hopefully my tips in helping you get better as you start drawing. Using lines to form shapes, then using shapes to make an image, and furthering your shapes into 3D shapes to make your art more realistic. Thank you for reading and following along, I hope this blog helps you draw amazing pieces of art!

All about the Blog!

Hi and welcome to my blog! I'm so excited to show you my tricks in how I draw and help to teach you easier ways to draw and sketch anatomy. Also, this blog will have personal sketches and drawings that I'll share with you. Another thing I would like to do is commission work or if you are interested you can commission me (I'll incorporate a reference of my commission sheet later). I'll also link some YouTube videos of other artists doing what I'm doing to further help. I can't wait to show you my amazing artwork and also help you get better at whatever you're trying to create.

CONCLUSION

Here are some examples of what you will see coming soon.

ANATOMY SKETCHES

I'll show you ways through videos or step-by-steps of how I sketch out anatomy, but I'll also give you links to how other artist sketch. I'll even show pictures of a finished sketch, or a picture of others finished work and write some of my opinions about it. Another thing! My anatomy can be about humans or animals! I am pretty decent with both, and I want to help you out through this blog.

PERSONAL ART

I'll show you drawing or sketches that I've done just to show off what I do. I'll show you characters I've made up or I'll show you fanart of things that I'm into.  Also, to be interactive I'll have a request box for things you'd like to see me draw. Note: I will not do any inappropriate or violent drawings. This blog is a safe area for everyone. But if you are interested in my art then I do have an Instagram @kittys_a_dragon. (My Instagram does have some sensitive content. 16+)

COMMISSIONS

I will except commissions through my Instagram @kittys_a_dragon. Fair warning again, I do have some sensitive content on there. If you don't want to contact me on Instagram or you don't have Instagram, you can contact my personal email. I'll also try to set my blog up to where you can make a commission request. We will talk about what you want first, for example, "I want a half body colored with shading of my character." I'll look over my commission sheet and give my pricings (I only will do your commission if you pay first!). Also please give me a reference sheet or a picture of what you want me to draw. A good explanation and some pictures would really help. Another thing to know is that my Commissions request will be in slot form, meaning I'll only take a couple at a time and when I'm fully done with the ones I've been working on, I'll reopen the slots. So, make sure you follow me on Instagram, or you watch my blog post for open commission slots!
